{2,2′-[5-Bromopyridine-2,3-diylbis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenolato}chlorido(dimethylformamide)manganese(III)

In the title complex, [Mn(C(19)H(12)BrN(3)O(2))Cl(C(3)H(7)NO)], the Mn(III) ion is coordinated by two N and two O atoms from the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand, one O atom from the dimethyl-formamide ligand and a Cl anion in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into centrosymmetric dimers with a short distance of 3.878 (3) Å between the centroids of the aromatic rings.

In the ligand, the two benzene rings form a dihedral angle of 68.06 (5)°.

Each Fe(III) center in the complex has a six-coordinated distorted cis-FeN(2)O(4) octa-hedral geometry.

The title compound, [Mn(C(18)H(18)N(2)O(4))(C(7)H(5)O(3))(H(2)O)], was synthesized by a template reaction of ethane-1,2-diamine and 3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde in presence of manganese(II) 4-hydroxy-benzoate. The Jahn-Teller-distorted manganese(III) centre has an octa-hedral geometry. Extensive O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions generate a two-dimensional sheet structure parallel to (103).
